MECHANICAL ENGINEER INTERN
Hazelett Corporation is seeking summer interns for its Mechanical Engineering Department. Our goal is to match Senior engineering students with our team for hands-on experience on a designated project over the summer.
WHO WE ARE
Hazelett Corporation is a company that is recognized worldwide for our leading metals processing technology. Our continuous casting process is renowned for its high productivity and energy efficiency. We pride ourselves on our robust machine design and in-house manufacturing and assembly capabilities. The materials produced by our machines are used in many applications such as aluminum automotive body components, aluminum foil, lead-acid automotive batteries, and copper wire and cables.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Mechanical Engineer Intern will complete a hands-on design project addressing a real manufacturing challenge at Hazelett. Working with experienced engineers, you will design and validate hardware for collecting data from a casting machine in a harsh industrial environment. The role includes subassembly design, data acquisition, test setup development, and analyzing system behavior to produce clear, actionable engineering insights.
THE CHALLENGE
We are looking for results-driven students who are excited to tackle real-world engineering problems and apply their technical skills in a hands-on manufacturing environment. This role may include efforts such as:
Learning and understanding the mechanical systems and processes that enable continuous casting operations.
Developing practical skills in mechanical testing, measurement techniques, and equipment evaluation.
Researching and troubleshooting mechanical or process-related issues in a manufacturing environment.
Applying engineering principles learned in school to real-world equipment and process challenges.
Taking ownership of an engineering project, including experiment or test design, data collection, analysis, and preparation of a final report.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
If you have the following qualifications, we encourage you to apply.
Curiosity and willingness to learn new skills and technologies.
An energetic, innovative, and open-minded approach to mechanical and design challenges.
A foundational understanding of mechanical behavior of materials and how design influences performance.
Familiarity with mechanical systems, instrumentation, and basic testing procedures.
Ability to follow safety procedures in laboratory and production environments.
Experience with data collection, analysis, and visualization tools.
Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively document, report, and present engineering findings.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Hands-on experience designing or building things, gained through a degree program, apprenticeship, professional experience, or significant personal projects.
Ideal candidates will have completed at least three years of coursework.
